  1. As noted in the original article the alogarithim is only making suggestions to the judge presiding over the case in which bail may be provided or not. Its not actually making the final decision to grant bail nor does it have any influence on the amount to set the bail at should it be granted. This, in my opinion shows quite a mature and well thought out use of an automated process that has relatively low stakes of doing something very damaging.

    That said, we dont fully understate how this might influence the way the behaviors in judges and bailiffs will be affected in time using such a system as every situation will have tiny nuances that could make any case the difference between just another bail hearing a full blown miscarriage of justice if things are not considered ever so carefully and from a morally progressed stand point.
