In response to the question on whether it is ethical to use Learning Analytics to assess student progress, many other professions make extensive use of data to carry out their new diagnoses, such as medical doctors, scientists and pharmacists, pioneering engineers through stress and performance testing as well as many other professions too. All these uses of data culminate in an application in which humans are involved, and in many cases, at the risk of injury or death (aeroplanes, heart medicine or bridges). It therefore stands without question that we as ‘learning scientists’ must make use of similar tools for the betterment of human endeavor even though their is a potential risk to the end user.
