Apparently, Matthew’s tweet about being able to read my personal blog raised a question amongst our group about why so many of us are happy to use our real names/twitter accounts etc for educational purposes. Although I do understand the premise of safety and why people wouldn’t want to mix their online life for the purpose of study with their online persona for the purpose of social, I also consider this in terms of community building. If someone prefers to hide behind a different persona as a student, does that affect their ability to or desire to form a community?
