Unreported Britain: without local newspapers, who’s keeping tabs? https://t.co/MXVtzL7kex Not sure there are digital checks/balances #mscedc

I’ve not seen a local newspaper for years. Discounting the freebies on the Tube, which are hardly hot-beds of local politics and local matters. It’s funny, I don’t think I’d missed them until I read this, and especially in light of the ‘community cultures’ block. Like highstreet book shops, presumably they’re increasingly, well, gone.

And it’s hard, harder, to vote in an informed way for local government, and to know what planning decisions and funding cuts are happening.

In a world of Street View, of Google Earth, it’s strange that some other things become harder to see. ‘Community Culture’? It depends where you’re looking, and what you’re looking for.
